Teacher development in ELES is one of the most urgent issues; the present teaching staffs in ELES are quite small in number, and there is not enough budget to offer teacher development courses at university to meet current elementary school teaching staff. This study first discusses teaching qualifications in ELES for potential part-time elementary school teachers (J-SHINE and TECSOL), providing details for the characteristics of each qualification and making a comparative review of them. Then, this study focuses on TECSOL and introduces one of the authors’ experiences of taking a four-week TECSOL course in Australia. The report contains TECSOL curriculum, detailed course content and the classroom environment.
