Styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer microspheres of ca. 100 μm in diameter were prepared by suspension polymerization in order to investigate the dependence of electrostatic properties on surface morphology. Surface morphology was changed varying the pore distribution and the average
size of pores in microspheres. That is, the different types of diluent, toluene and η-dodecane, were used to change the surface morphology. The pore size using η-dodecane become larger than that using toluene. The electrostatic capacities obtained in the
η-dodecane system were of higher values than those in the toluene system. In the case where the mixtures of η-dodecane and toluene were used as the diluent, the highest value for the electrostatic capacity was obtained when the solution (η-dodecane: toluene = 1 : 1 in volume ratio) was used. |
