Requirements of Prawn, Penaeus japonicus, for Essential Fatty Acids クルマエビにおける必須脂肪酸要求量 KANAZAWA, Akio 金沢, 昭夫 TESHIMA, Shin-ichi 手島, 新一 ENDO, Minoru 猿渡, 実 open access Feeding trials using purified diets were carried out to estimate the requirements of prawn, Penaeus japonicus, for essential fatty acids (EFA) such as linoleic acid (18: 2ω6), linolenic acid (18: 3ω3), eicosapentaenoic acid (20: 5ω3), and docosahexaenoic acid (22: 6ω3). For 18: 2ω6 and 18: 3ω3, the optimum weight gain was attained on diets containing 1.0% of either 18: 2ω6 or 18: 3ω3. However, the weight gain on diets containing 18: 2ω6 or 18: 3ω3 was inferior even at the optimum levels to that on the diets containing lower levels of 20: 5ω3 or 22: 6ω3. This indicated that 18: 2ω6 and 18: 3ω3 are not as effective EFA for the prawn as 20: 5ω3 and 22: 6ω3.
