<dc:description>Experiments were performed to investigate, for silica sand with a mean size of 145 μm and a particle density of 2640 kg/m^3, the effect of inlet air velocity and aeration velocity on the separation performance of a 50 mm dia. standard cyclone for a circulating fluidized bed system wity a 20 mm dia. riser. The results indicated that the inlet solids holdup decreases and the pressure drop across the cyclone increases with an increase of the inlet air velocity. Increasing the aeration velocity over a critical value results in a significant drop in the separation efficiency of the cyclone at high inlet velocities.</dc:description>
