Development of an Innovative Cultural Textbook for Non-native Learners in japanese OSHIMA, Maki 141831 大嶋, 眞紀 SATO, Van Aacken 141832 370 One of the reasons of developing an innovative cultural textbook is that non-native learners in Japanese often find difficulties in understanding Japanese' behaviors, communication styles, values, etc. and it is necessary to teach those invisible cultural aspects of life in Japan besides simply teaching the language. The traditional approach to teaching Japanese culture to non-native learners in Japanese usually employs the dual functions of teaching language and cultural aspects, and it often creates a problem in the classroom as the focus tends to shift gradually from cultural study to language learning.
