<dc:description>One of the reasons of developing an innovative cultural textbook is that non-native learners in Japanese often find difficulties in understanding Japanese' behaviors, communication styles, values, etc. and it is necessary to teach those invisible cultural aspects of life in Japan besides simply teaching the language.
The traditional approach to teaching Japanese culture to non-native learners in Japanese usually employs the dual functions of teaching language and cultural aspects, and it often creates a problem in the classroom as the focus tends to shift gradually from cultural study to language learning.
We propose a more active approach in which learners concentrate on cultural exercises such as theoretical introduction, discussion type activities, cultural comparisons, simulative practices, etc. Through these exercises they can re-think and become more aware of cultural framework which will help them develop their own cultural mind.</dc:description>
