As the method of research,questionnaires were sent by mail to all national and public high schools in Japan in 2002. The number of effective recoveries was 2292,a recovely rate of 55.6%. From 2003 to 2004 we conducted interviews on examples of good cooperation,and collected related material such as newspaper reports. The results are as follows; 1. Only half or fewer high schools arranged opportunities for students to learn about their commumty. 2. These opportunities tended to be outside regular school-subject class time.
