The gas-liquid chromatography on 1.5% OV-17 and 1.5% SE-30 indicated that the clam contain 22-trans-24-norcholesta-5,22-dien-3β-ol, 22-dehydrocholesterol, cholesterol, brassicasterol, desmosterol, campesterol, 24-methylenecholesterol, stigmasterol, β-sitsterol, and at least three other sterols. 22-Dehydrocholesterol, desmosterol, and 24-methylene cholesterol were isolated as a pure sterol by a column chromatography on silver nitrate-impregnated silicic acid, and then the identification of them were further confirmed by infrared absorption spectra and mass spectrometry.
