Yellow fever is one of viral\nhemorrhagic fevers which exert influence upon the liver. Midzonal necrosis and\nCouncilman body are characteristic histological features of the liver. Hemorrhagic fevers such as Lassa fever, Marburg virus disease and Ebola hemorrhagic fever show more or less irregular degenerative and necrotic changes of liver parenchymal cells with relatively slight inflammatory cell infiltration. Characteristic bile stasis of peripheral region of liver lobules and foamy degeneration of liver parenchymal cells are observed in the liver in Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (Korean Hemorrhagic Fever). Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Rift Valley fever also affect the liver.\nAlthough malaria itself is not liver disease, remarkable mobilization of Kupffer\ncalls containing malarial parasites is observed occasionally. In experimental malaria using mice, scattered acidophilic necrosis of liver parenchymal cells is seen. In chronic malaria, probably tertian malaria, liver usually shows only deposition of malarial pigments in some Kupffer cells with no or very slight parenchymal lesion\nor fibrosis. In visceral Leishmaniasis, Kala-azar, parasites could be seen in\nnot only Kupffer cells but also liver parenchymal cells.\nPericholangiolar inflammatory cell infiltration and fibrosis of the liver occur\nin clonorchiasis and fascioliasis, because the parasites infect bile system of the\nliver. Unilocular echinoccosis is seen in Africa and other tropical areas. Large\ncyst formation cause mechanical disturbance of the liver. Schistosomiasis japonica\nand mansoni are prevalent in tropical areas, and fibrosis or cirrhosis of the liver\ncan be observed.\nMycotoxicosis especially acute aflatoxicosis is sometimes reported in tropical\nareas. Whether mycotoxins play etiological role of primary hepatocellular carcinoma\nof man is not known. Reye's syndrome and kwashiorkor are related to nutritional\ndisturbances or malnutrition showing fatty metamorphosis of liver parenchymal cells. In Bantu siderosis, diffuse iron deposition is observed in the liver both in\nKupffer cells and liver parenchymal cells.
