The purpose of the session was to improve the teaching skills of Kagoshima schoolteachers by developing their knowledge of the aquatic environment. Participants boarded the Nansei-maru for a trip to the northern part of Kagoshima Bay. On-board activities included collection of water samples, survey of the thermocline layer, measurement of dissolved oxygen, observation of 'tagiri' (a fumarole) by underwater TV camera, among others.
