Non-structural carbohydrates as well as vegetative and reproductive growth were monitored. Early application of growth retardant reduced shoot growth and leaf area by 50% and 12% respectively. Initially, the application of paclobutrazol inhibited photosynthesis, however, the plants recovered within the season.
