干潟干潮帯には， カワアイCerithideopsilla djadjariensis， ウミニナBatillariamultiformis， ヘナタリCerithideopslla cingulata，フトヘナタリCerithidea rhizophorarum のウミニナ類の貝4 種が同所的に群生している．ウミニナ科やフトヘナタリ科に属するウミニナ類の貝類は汽水域や塩分の少ない内湾的環境の泥砂底ないし泥質の干潟に生息しており，日本の干潟では最も普通に見られる巻貝である．本研究では，生態のよく分かっていないカワアイをサイズ分布と他の貝との占有度の季節変動を明らかにすることによって，生活史を明らかにすることを目的とした．調査は愛宕川河口の支流にある干潟で2004 年2 月から2005 年1 月まで毎月1 回，潮位70 cm以下の日の干潮時に行なった．3 つの調査区を60m 間隔で設け，それぞれに25 cm × 25 cm のコドラートをランダムに3 ヶ所設置し，コドラート内の貝類を全て採集した．採った貝類を種類わけし，また，カワアイの殻高をノギスを用い，0.1mm 単位で測定した．その結果，個体数の割合では，上流域では，カワアイの割合が多く，中下流域ではウミニナの割合が多いことがわかった．殻高頻度分布は，上流域，下流域でグラフのサイズグループの推移が見られることから成長段階にあることがわかった．上流域，下流域を比較すると下流域では見られない大型個体が上流域では見られた．これは，大型個体が移動する力を持っており，これまで下流域で生活していた貝が移動したためと考えられる．また，上流域では初夏から秋にかけて，下流域では夏以来に幼貝が参入してきていた．中流域では2004 年一月に竣設工事があり，環境が攪乱されカワアイの採集個体がほとんどなく，採集された約80%
