sulcatus (Born, 1778) は，盤足目ゴマフニナ科に属する巻貝で，房総半島以南，インド，西太平洋域に分布し，潮間帯下部の岩礁上に生息している．本種の生態に関する研究例はまったくない．本種がどのような生活史を持つのかほとんど分かっていない．このため，本研究では鹿児島県桜島袴腰海岸において，ゴマフニナの生活史を明らかにすることを目的とした．\n2010 年12 月～ 2011 年12 月まで，毎月大潮時に鹿児島県桜島袴腰海岸の潮間帯で50 cm × 50 cmのコドラートを用いて，3 か所でサンプルを採取し，ノギスを用いて殻長を測った．持ち帰ったサンプルは，冷凍保存しておき，2011 年5 月～ 2011 年12 月の各サンプルの中から，ランダムに20 個体を選び，光学顕微鏡を用いて雌雄の性比を調査した．2011 年6 月～ 2011 年8 月において，繁殖期におけるメスとオスの殻長平均値の差を調査するために，独立変数を雌雄，従属変数を殻長とし，t 検定を行った．サイズ頻度分布から，夏にかけてグラフのサイズピークが大型サイズへ移行していることがわかった．また，2011 年10 月と2011 年12月には新規個体群と思われるサイズの小さな個体群が確認できた．生殖腺観察から，6 月，7 月，8月にかけて精子が見られた．その他の月では，卵子が観察されるか，配偶子がまったく観察されなかったかのどちらかであった．t 検定より，雌雄間での殻長差に有意性がないことが分かった．本種は，生殖腺観察から精子が確認できたのは6–8 月の間だけだったことから，この時期に生殖を行なっていると思われる．その後，10 月くらいから，新規個体群が加入してくる．11 月のサイズ頻度分布に小さな個体群が見られないのは，調査時の見落としなどのサンプリングエラーよるものだと思う．精子が見られない時期での，卵子の確認，9
