cingulata は普通に見られる種であるが研究対象とされた例がほとんどなく，その生態はほとんど解明されていない．そこで，本研究では，シマベッコウバイのサイズ頻度分布とシマベッコウバイの内部成長線を観察し，シマベッコウバイの生活史を明らかにすることを目的とした．調査は，桜島袴腰海岸にてシマベッコウバイを2017 年12 月から2018 年11 月の期間，各月大潮干潮時に50 個体見つけ取りにて採集した．採集後，カ－ボンファイバ－ノギスを用いて計測した殻高と個体数のヒストグラムから，2 月，3 月，6 月，7 月，8 月，9 月にシマベッコウバイの稚貝の新規加入が確認でき，稚貝の新規加入は2 月から秋にかけて行われていると推測された．測定後，乾燥した10 個体のサンプルは研磨処理を行った．研磨処理後に双眼実体顕微鏡を用いて殻断面を観察したところ，内部成長線とみられる縞を確認できた．その後，エッチング処理，スンプ処理を行った後，光学顕微鏡を用いて観察した．エッチング処理では塩酸と酢酸にそれぞれ1 分30 秒ずつ浸けた．スンプ処理では，殻断面にスンプ液をはけで殻断面に塗りスンプ板をはり10
