A total of 530 species (255 genera and 85 families), including 259 species recorded reliably for the first time on the basis of collected specimens and/or underwater photographs, are listed with literature citations, institution registration numbers, size, island localities, and (in some cases) remarks. Two of the newly recorded species from Kikai Island [Valenciennea sexguttata (Gobiidae) and Paramonacanthus oblongus (Monacanthidae)] also represent the first records from the Amami Islands.
