In Japanese waters, the species has previously been recorded from the Ogasawara Islands, the Japan Sea coast (Aomori to Yamaguchi prefectures) and the Pacific coast (Miyagi and Kochi prefectures and Sagami and Suruga bays) of Honshu and Shikoku, the East China Sea, Okinawa-jima island, and the Yaeyama Islands.
