分娩後25日目にGnRH100μg, 37日目にPG15mgを無作為に投与した.PG投与後に発情がきた牛の一部には授精時にGnRH100μgを投与し, 無発情の牛の一部にはGnRH200μgを追加投与した.薬剤投与時には直腸検査による生殖器の観察を行い, 同時に血清P値を測定した.試験Iでは5戸の乳牛30頭を処置群, 同居する無処置の30頭を対照群とし, 試験IIでは2戸の乳牛の23頭を処置群, 同居牛のうち試験期間中に妊娠した乳牛50頭を対照群とした.さらに試験IIIでは17戸の黒毛和種17頭を処置群とし, 対照群を設けなかった.その結果, 試験Iでは, 分娩後初回授精までの日数(処置群45日目, 対照群64日)は処置群で短縮されたが, 最終受胎率(80%と73%), 受胎までの日数(86日と88日), 授精回数(2.1回と2.0回)には差がなかった.これに対し試験IIでは, 分娩後初回授精までの日数(処置群65日, 対照群81日), 受胎までの日数(109日と150日), 授精回数(1.8回と2.4回)のいずれもかなり改善された.試験IIIの黒毛和種では分娩後受胎までの日数が98日となり, 一般に報告されている160～180日より大幅に短縮された.直腸検査による卵巣所見と血清P値とは必ずしも一致しなかった.初回GnRH投与時(分娩後25日)には70%の牛が1ng/ml未満の低いP値を示した.PG投与時もP値の低いものが55%を占めた.このことからGnRHやPGの投与時期が必ずしも適切ではなかったことが判明した.本研究の結果, 分娩後のGnRHとPGの投与には, ある程度の受胎促進効果が認められた.今後は繁殖管理不良群や生殖器の機能回復遅延牛を分娩後早期に発見して, P値による黄体機能判定の上, これらの処置を実施すれば,
