This thesis introduces the contents and details of the forest environmental education programs carried out for Tarumizu primary school in Tarumizu city; it also considers the effects on the primary school children and university students participating in the programs.\nImprovements in the Tarumizu primary school program are made every year. \nThe aspirations and improvements of the program are made through consultation with teachers of the school. Each year,the aims of the integrated study programs are refined along with a determination to improve leadership skills through prior training. In addition,the resultant changes made from the outcomes of a trial and error approach over the years has lead to the recognition that these programs are held in high esteem for their positive effects on education. The “Exploration of the Head of the River\" program is carried out in the first term. The “Exploration of the Forest\" program\nis carried out in the second term by three classes of fifth graders. In the former program,the participants learn about the hydrologic cycle and the natural world in a mountain stream through the activity of climbing through the stream. In the latter program,through carrying out activities in the forest,the participants learn about the connection between living things and the role of the forest. The execution of the programs took the form of each of the there classes of pupils holding one class per day during a period of six days in total in May and October. Each class was divided into six groups; each group was assigned a leader. The leaders of the groups were taken from members of staff of the University Forest and from students of Kagoshima University. The independent activities of each group are of paramount importance; therefore,the leadership of each group leader is necessary. In this program,the leaders and children can learn effectively at the same time. The effect of the experiential learning on the participants in the program when repeated for three days was markedly substantial. Development in the form of new education programs in forest science is expected.
