An intake of it was constructed in 1692, the Edo period and reconstructed in 1913 based on the epigraph of monument. Water flowed through the canal was/is used for irrigation of rice field along the canal. At the end of Edo period “Shuseikan-jigyo” project planed by Load Shimazu Nariakira was carried out at Iso area and industries were started. Water flowed through the canal was used for a power of waterwheel in the project. The canal was constructed almost on the surface of welded tuff, the Yoshino pyroclastic flow with an incline of 0.074° from Sekiyoshi to Sanekata areas.
