Five densities of Chlorella saccharophila var. saccharophila, 0.5×10^<6>, 1×10^<6>, 3×10^<6>, 5×10^<6> and 8×10^<6>, cells・ml^<-1>, were prepared for the test series. The\ndensities were maintained by continuous pumping of a concentrated C.saccharophila culture\nwith a micro-pump at a constant rate (30ml・h^<-1>). Food conversion rate was calculated\nbased on caloric content of the rotifer culture. Further, culture performance was also\nestimated using food conversion times growth rate as index (again based on caloric content).\nThe culture experiments were conducted at 25°C. The highest food conversion rate was\nobserved at 1×10^<6> cells・ml^<-1>; however, performance index showed its highest value at 3×10^<6>\ncells・ml^<-1>.
