The results are as follows: (1) The Lake water mass is divided optically into two layers, that is, the upper one and the lower. Seasonal variation at three stations is quite similar (Fig. 3). (2) The extinction coefficient is at its maximum in December, when the starch manufactories round the Lake, which begin their operations in October, finishing them in February, are in the full operation. This fact may be attributed to an effect of the starch-dregs on the extinction coefficient.
