Most of the broad-leaved firewood is used for producing dried bonito in the area of South Satsuma peninsula (Nansatsu). A large quantity of firewood is used in the smoldering and drying process (baikan) during the production of dried bonito, which takes place mainly in Makurazaki city and Yamakawa town (now Ibusuki city). However, the actual use and supply of firewood for the baikan process have not been clarified. The study was carried out by interviews with dried bonito producers and firewood suppliers. The findings differ widely between Makurazaki and Yamakawa with regard to dried bonito-producing equipment, business forms, and business unit price. While the amount of firewood for baikan use is stabilizing at about 71,000m3/ year in the Nansatsu area, firewood self sufficiency in the area seems to be difficult from the standpoint of natural forest resource conditions.}, pages = {25--30}, title = {鰹節焙乾用薪の利用と供給の実態}, volume = {40}, year = {2013}, yomi = {サトウ, マサムネ and テラオカ, ユキオ and トミナガ, サトミ} }
