鹿児島市郡元及び吉野, 指宿市大迫, 横川町山之口, 内之浦町北方)におけるシソの害虫相とそれらの発生についての調査を行い, 27種の新記録種を含む7目17科38種の加害種を確認した.既往の文献に報告されている7目14科25種と合わせるとシソを加害する害虫は日本からは7目18科52種となる.鹿児島市郡元における主要種の発生消長と被害発生消長の調査で, 6目12科18種の加害種を確認した.これらのうち, 被害葉率が15%を越える主要種はニセナミハダニ, ミナミキイロアザミウマ, オンブバッタ, コクロヒメハマキ, ハスモンヨトウ及びベニフキノメイガの6種で, 特にベニフキノメイガはシソに甚大な被害を与え, 被害最盛期は秋期で, この時期の被害葉率は80%であった.ベニフキノメイガの各虫態の発育零点と有効積算温度は, 卵が12.7℃と55.0日度, 幼虫が12.7℃と189.8日度, 蛹が13.5℃と91.8日度で, 卵から羽化までが13.5℃と315.2日度であった.また, 本種幼虫は鹿児島では5齢を経過する.ベニフキノメイガの成・幼虫の発生消長調査で, 越冬世代成虫は5月中旬～下旬, 第1世代成虫は6月上旬～下旬, 第2世代成虫は7月上旬～8月上旬, 第3世代成虫は8月中旬～9月上旬, 第4世代成虫は9月中旬～下旬まで発生したと推定された.有効積算温度の法則を用いて, 本種の鹿児島市における年間発生世代数を推測した結果,
