aurantiacus var.thunbergii)に発生したさび病菌(Zaghouania phillyreae)についての研究をまとめたものである.本菌の生態, 形態, 生理的性質および防除などについて次のような結果がえられた.1.ウスギモクセイは本菌の寄主として, 今までに報告されていない樹種である.2.毎年12月下旬ないし1月上旬から葉の裏側に冬胞子および小生子が形成され, 小生子は晩冬ないし早春, 新芽, 新葉にはげしいさび病をおこす.冬胞子および小生子は春までに消失する.3.春, 新芽, 新葉にさび胞子腔およびさび胞子が形成される.4.さび胞子は新葉に侵入する.その病原性は強くなく, おこす病徴もめだたない.葉をうすく変色させる程度である.しかし, 夏から初冬にかけて, その変色を強めそこに新しい冬胞子堆, 冬胞子および小生子を形成する.5.夏胞子は冬胞子堆が形成された当初から, わずかながらその中に混って形成される.しかし, 冬胞子および小生子の消失と反比例するように数が増え, 2月下旬ないし3月中旬には, 全部の胞子が夏胞子に交替する.6.夏胞子は初夏まで観察される.しかし, 病原性は認められず, 本菌の生存上の意義は今までのところ不明である.7.本菌は薩摩半島の先端近くから北へほぼ70kmまでの9町, 15か所以上に発生が認められた, 寄主植物のほとんどはウスギモクセイであった.8.小生子は低温(5~10℃)でも, かなり発芽し, その発芽適温は20℃前後であった.9.さび胞子および夏胞子はよく似た発芽性を示した.すなわち, 共に5℃前後から発芽しはじめ, 35℃においても20%前後の発芽率を示した.発芽適温は25℃前後と考えられた.10.発芽適温において, いずれの胞子も水中で1時間以内に発芽しはじめた.さび胞子および夏胞子は2時間程度で,
