It is seen that household production for subsistence still predominates the\ndomestic fisheries within a communal society. While within this traditional framework,\nartisanal-commercial fisheries has developed with introduced simple techniques and gear,\ndistinguished by low productivity and inferior marketing and distribution systems. These\ncoastal fisheries and communal tenure system has led towards a reasonable exploitation,\nconservation and management of resources and has enabled the coastal fisheries to provide for\nthe domestic demand. The study further tries to point out the limitations of its progress and its\nnear stagnation under the present circumstances.\nThe rural socio-economics of the peasant farmer has been adopted for the analysis on small\nscale household fishermen and fisheries production. The fishing and agricultural community\nstudies has been based on sociological analysis in terms of the structure and organisation of the\ncommunity and the social and cultural relations of production and distribution.
