| 内容記述 | To study the current trend of P. N. G. society I examined the urbanization of this country. From the immigrants of two selected settlements I obtaind information through a questionnaire covering their immigration process, their urban settlement life and the relation to their mother villages. Material from government offices and reserch institutions was also used. The followings are a summary of the results. "1) Both immigrants groups in urban settlements and resident groups in urban villages have a strong feeling of ""wantok"" which means unity with relatives, fellow villagers and people who speak the same language, and the immigrants have a desire to return their home villages in the future." 2) The residents in urban villagers have strong political power because they are former occupants of the capital district, have customary land and make Motsu=Koita Assemblies. But as the immigrants in the capital district are much more numerous, sometimes antagonism develops between immigrants and former residents. 3) Although customary land is owned by the community and is not registered by any one person, some individuals are collecting rents from the immigrants in urban villages without proper authority. "As a whole I felt that personal interests (""Gesellschaft"") gradually invade the communal society (""Gemeinschaft"")." |
