| 内容記述 | Brittany occupies a large peninsula in the northwest of France, and stands out from the rest of France not only physically but culturally as well. The area has been inhabited by the Celts since about the 5-7th century. They gave the region a Celtic language which remains in the western part. In the middle of the 19th century, Brittany experienced a revitalization of traditional culture with the discovery and widespread collection of folk songs. In the 1950s, Loeiz Ropars adapted the fest-noz , a "night party" in rural communities and set the stage for the folk revival. Since the 1970s, Breton music has been modernized and adapted into folk-rock and other fusion genres through the influence of Alan Stivell. Now it is very popular even outside the region. Large-scale Celtic festivals are held in the summer in towns around the region. Yann-Fanch Kemener and other famous singers are continuing Breton traditions. | |||||
