| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study is to explore and assess the stereotypes, discriminatory notions and behavioural rule framework (in positive and negative aspects) regarding the lifestyle and education of Victorian girls in several of Grace Stebbing's works. The possible influence and impact of the image of Victorian girls thus created will also be examined. The works by Stebbing examined in the paper are the novel "That Aggravating Schoolgirl" and the short stories Noel: Or, Earned and Unearned and Provide Things Honest; or, Those Two Young Hills. These works all appeared in serialized format in the educational periodical The Girl's Own Paper in the early 1880s and thus present a valuable insight into various aspects of the young Victorian girls' lifestyle: school, leisure, family and romantic relationships and employment as well the emerging New Girl culture challenging the traditional roles of women in the Victorian era. |
