| 内容記述 | This study investigates Karl Polanyi's critique on classical economics and his comprehension of Adam Smith, with a focus on the concept of naturalism as conceived by Josef Townsend. This analysis will clarify the features of both classical economics and Polanyi’s idea. On the one hand, Polanyi evaluated Smith’s cognition of the relation between society and the economy; on the other hand, he did not recognized the propensity of free exchange and division of labour were denied. However, the Polanyi's evaluation of Smith was established in spite of lack of his sympathy in TMS. The significance of “nature” was amended in economics. Smith insists that humans differed from animals due to the propensity of exchange as human nature. Classical economics equalized humanity with animals by applying the logic of nature to humanity as an insertion of naturalism. Polanyi refocused on external surroundings as a default condition for thought on economy and society. Therefore, the difference among Smith, classical economics, and Polanyi was the origin of the idea of nature. Then, Smith shares with Polanyi the idea of humanity as a social existence, and Polanyi critiques the logic of nature in classical economics. |
