内容記述 | This study reports on a series of skit activities in a high school English class. The class aims to foster students’ positive attitudes toward speaking in English with a focus on the concept of willingness to communicate (WTC), anxiety, and the self-perceived competence that supports it. In this practice, 54 high school students performed a series of skit activities. In the instruction, a teacher prepared skits with familiar content but the degree of freedom was increased as the course progressed. Students were allowed to work cooperatively in a pair or group during the activities. Pre- and post-questionnaires revealed a slight increase in perceived competence and unchanged anxiety, and contrary to expectations, a slight decrease in WTC. On the other hand, the results of a speaking test indicated that speaking fluency and overall performance had significantly improved. In addition, the results of the reflection sheets and supplementary interviews conducted in each class showed that the students were enjoying the skit activities, cooperating with classmates, and gradually enjoying engaging in the task, although this did not necessarily lead to their willingness to use English inside and outside the class. | |||||
