| 内容記述 | 英語名詞の可算性は、主に形式面から、当該名詞と不定冠詞a(n) や数量詞との共起関係、複数形態素 -sの有無などにより判定する。一方、英語名詞の程度性は、通常、英語形容詞や副詞の程度性ほど問題視されることが少ないが、主に形式面から、英語形容詞と程度副詞との共起関係（選択制限）に準拠する発想により、いわゆる程度形容詞との共起関係を手掛かりとして判定の目安とする。 本稿は、それらを踏まえつつも、語彙意味論を背景として、Gradingと呼ばれる心的過程（いわば、我々の認識・認知機能の一部）の観点 (cf. Sapir 1944) から英語名詞の可算性と程度性を考察する。その際、SDGsの国連決議文の「前文」に見られる５つのキーワード (i.e. People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, Partnership）を手掛かりに、様々な文脈における英語名詞及び、それらを含む名詞句に見られる、英語特有のふるまいを扱う。日本語とは異なる英語名詞の使い方や文法の違いを理解することで、SDGsの精神に基づく認識や行動の重要性をよりよく理解する機会ともなれば幸いである。 |

| 内容記述 | This paper examines the countability and gradability of English nouns, focusing on the five key terms found in the preamble of the SDGs documents: people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership. By exploring these words, we aim to understand better the subtleties in the behavior of English nouns and noun phrases in various contexts, and to reconsider the purposes and actions outlined in the SDGs' global plans. In analyzing these nouns and their phrases, this paper primarily references the Oxford English Dictionary (O.E.D.) and considers both pragmatic and semantic perspectives. For example, we typically do not consider countability and gradability when observing the behavior of words like earth or planet. However, by doing so, we can gain insights into the lexical grammar of English nouns, which differs from Japanese, and reflect on the significance of our awareness and actions inspired by the SDGs' spirit. |
