| 内容記述 | Two short body spined loach Cobitis spp. were collected from western Japan. One is Cobitis sp. BIWAE type A from Ishi River (Osaka Prefecture, 51.9 mm standard length), and the other is Cobitis sp. BIWAE type B from Sakura River (Shiga Prefecture, 54.4 mm standard length). Both short body individuals have shorter postdorsal and postanal lengths compared to normal individuals. Besides, short body individuals have fewer caudal vertebrae (short body individuals: 7–9, normal individuals: 17–22). Three causes are possible explanations of their morphological abnormality: a lack of genetic diversity within a population, environmental factors in early development, or a result of partial caudal regeneration after damaged. | |||||
