| 内容記述 | A single specimen (74.4 mm standard length) of Upeneus itoui Yamashita, Golani and Motomura, 2011 (Mullidae), collected off Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture (33°28′31″N, 135°51′37″E), represents the first record of the species from Wakayama, since the species have previously been known only from Ehime, Kochi, Miyazaki, Kagoshima and Okinawa prefectures in Japanese waters. Moreover, 65 young specimens (32.2–85.2 mm standard length) of the species were collected off Niyodo River mouth (33°27′N, 133°30′E), Tosa Bay, Kochi Prefecture, Japan during 10–12th January 2017. These examples suggested that the young stage of the species use the area as a nursery ground. Ontogenetic changes of diagnostic characters, including coloration of the caudal fin, and body proportions in the species are discussed. | |||||
