| 内容記述 | Individuals (1–2 m estimated total length) of Mola alexandrini (Molidae) were captured by set nets off Kuki-cho (34°01–02′N, 136°16′E), Owase City, Mie Prefecture, Japan during 2016–2021. These individuals represent the first records of M. alexandrini from Mie Prefecture. The sea surface temperatures during the occurrence of M. alexandrini in this study were 16.4–19.6 ℃. Although there have been few methods to identify medium-sized individuals of M. alexandrini and M. mola by external morphology, the new taxonomic key characters were shown in this study. The presence of raised skin wrinkles can differentiate M. alexandrini (absent) and M. mola (present). However, the raised skin wrinkles of small M. mola individuals (at least <30 cm total length) were underdeveloped. As far as examined in this study, these wrinkles of M. mola was observable in fresh individuals at least >110 cm total length. It was also suggested that M. alexandrini differs from M. mola in having distinct white spots on lateral surface of body (vs. obscure in M. mola), although more detailed comparisons are needed. | |||||
