| 内容記述 | A single specimen (1041 mm total length) of Rhynchobatus australiae (Whitley, 1939) (Rhinidae), collected from off Amami-oshima island in the Amami Islands, is described in detail.It represents the first record of the species from the island as well as the first specimen-based record from the Amami Islands. Examination of literature in this study shows that R. australiae have been recorded from the Sea of Japan (Fukui Prefecture), Osumi Peninsula (Kagoshima mainland), the East China Sea, the Amami Islands (Tokuno-shima and Okinoerabu-jima islands), the Okinawa Islands (Okinawa-jima island), and the Yaeyama Islands in Jpanasese waters. Rhynchobatus australiae occurs mainly in the Ryukyu Islands (one record from Fukui Prefecture probably based on transportation by the Tsushima Current), while the only Japanese congener Rhynchobatus mononoke Koeda et al., 2020 occurs mainly along the coast of the Japanese mainland (recorded from Chiba and Nagasaki prefectures, and Kagoshima mainland). Although R. australiae has been previously considered to differ from R. mononoke in the outer fold on the spiracle posterior margin similar in size to the inner fold (vs. more pronounced than the inner fold in the latter), the Amami specimen of R. australiae has the pronounced outer fold. Thus, this character is not always reliable to distinguish the two species. | |||||
