| 内容記述 | A species of the moray eel, Gymnothorax shaoi Chen and Loh, 2007 is reported from Japanese waters as a reliable record. A single specimen of the species (514 mm of total length) was collected from shallow coast of Amami-oshima island, Amami Islands, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It was confirmed with the diagnostic characters of that of G. shaoi. Several former records identified as G. reevesii (Richardson, 1845) were reidentified as G. shaoi based on the snout proportion and coloration in photographs. The new standard Japanese names, “Tapioka-utsubo” is proposed for G. shaoi based on the present specimen. | |||||
