| 内容記述 | This paper analyzes prehistoric burial sites in the Tokara and Amami Islands. The following results were found: i) each village possibly had different graveyard locations; ii) the type II stone coffin is found only in the Amami islands; iii) first burials were basic style even if the burial locations were different, but the structures for secondary burials appear in the Heian period; iv) the majority of burials were in the extended supine position，with the supine crouched position appearing after the late Yayoi period; and v) many of the stone coffins were found to contain women. Moreover，graveyard locations，burials，accessories，funerary goods and tooth extraction found in the Tokara and Amami Islands are similar to those of the Okinawa Islands，and burial posture and tooth extraction found in the late Yayoi period are also similar to those of the Osumi Islands. This shows that the close interregional exchange among these islands brought about by the shell trade in the Ryukyu Archipelago had a mutual1y constant influence on burial customs. | |||||
