After the samples had been filtered, the residue was dried and weighed, and the filtrate was analyzed for SO_4^\u003c2-\u003e, Cl^-, and water-soluble matter,  as well as for pH.\nThe average monthly ashfall at eight locations in Kagoshima City was 113 ton ･ km^\u003c-2\u003e a month, which was considerably lower than that observed in the last fiscal year by 90 ton ･ km^\u003c-2\u003e.
