Courses in English for Medical Purposes (EMP) have also been attaining status as EAP (English for Academic Purposes) among medical and nursing students, but they are still small in number. The number of textbooks and teaching materials in EMP is still limited although there are strong needs from the field of medicine and nursing. In light of the current EMP instruction, this present study tries to suggest an instruction of EMP with special emphasis on Task-Based Instruction (TBI) which has an integrative instruction of EMP including four language skills. And this method is also based on Communicative Language Teaching (CLT).  For the future prospects in EMP, genre-driven EMP textbooks and teaching materials should be developed and they should be based on TBI in which the contents and tasks are considered from the needs analyses both pre-clinical and post-clinical in medicine. 内容記述 English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in Japan has been getting widespread among ESP practitioners and teachers in college and university since the late 1980s. Courses in English for Medical Purposes (EMP) have also been attaining status as EAP (English for Academic Purposes) among medical and nursing students, but they are still small in number. The number of textbooks and teaching materials in EMP is still limited although there are strong needs from the field of medicine and nursing. In light of the current EMP instruction, this present study tries to suggest an instruction of EMP with special emphasis on Task-Based Instruction (TBI) which has an integrative instruction of EMP including four language skills.
