| 内容記述 | This paper is an attempt to present a method in the study of place-names in England from the historical point of view. In this paper I took up the place names, especially street names, of St. Ives in Cambridgeshire, most of which are particularly interesting when we investigate the origin and history of place-names of St. Ives and England. Historical incidents, political, economical, and cultural, are engraved in the place-names of St. Ives and England. The origin and history of place-names of St. Ives can be explained by both the history of England and that of the English language. The historical point of view in the study of place-names of England is deeply connected with the history of England and that of the English language. | |||||
