A sellout every year but one since its move to Honolulu in 1980, the Pro Bowl continues to figure prominently in the State of Hawaii\u0027s plans to revitalize the lagging local economy through the promotion of sports and recreational tourism. The Pro Bowl\u0027s link to tourism and militarism bring it into tension with a number of Native Hawaiian sovereignty groups seeking to reassert control over the land, other national resources, and general government of the islands.
