Plastics are produced in a large qantity for various uses. Therefore the amount of waste plastics is huge. In the present technological and social conditions, it is difficult to recycle all the waste plastics because recycling is more costly than using virgin materials. The process proposed consists of two stages. In the first stage, plastics are thermally decomposed to hydrocarbon gases and vapors. In the second stage, the hydrocarbons are decomposed to carbon and hydrogen. This paper describes the result of the basic investigation using a spouted bed reactor for the second stage. |
