内容記述 | This study explored the effects of using native language videos focused on social commitment and contribution through professionalism. The purpose of using such materials was to encourage .rst-year Japanese college learners to become critical and insightful in acquiring their own English, which is crucial in helping them develop their sense of values and philosophy of life. To this end, they were encouraged to engage in self-dialogue and self-reflection through the videos that highlight maturity in adulthood, such as social responsibility and good citizenship. Specifically, these videos were employed so that the students struggled to acquire specific vocabulary and logical communication skills necessary for explaining clearly how they should be able to establish their individual life goals and the values during their college days. A Japanese book focusing on campus-life issues among contemporary Japanese youths was also used to supplement the videos. Some positive results, which were gained from several questionnaires after the study, suggested that English language classes using the videos and the book in the native language may become useful, not only in promoting deeper self-inquiry and self-re.ection, but also in developing self-attentive vocabulary in both Japanese and English languages. | |||||
