| 内容記述 | Adult of Cypselurus naresii (GUNTHER), obtained for the first time from the coast of Japan, and its juveniles are treated on this paper. A single specimen of adult C. naresii was collected by a trap-net at Shika-no-shima, Fukuoka Prefecture, on July, 1954. It is a medium size flying-fish more than 290 mm in total length. Its ventral is inserted backward, and both of paired fins are long, reaching center of caudal peduncle when folded. Ripe ovarian eggs obtained from the specimen measure 1.8 to 2.1 mm in diameter, and have 40 to 50 circumspherical tendrils. Numerous young specimens, 14.5 to 53.0 mm long, were collected along the southern and western coast of Kyushu. They have single cutaneous barbel at symphysis which grow to considerable length. characteristics in the counts and easurements of these adult and young specimens are listed (Tables 1 and 2). They have more dorsal rays and predorsal scales cdtnpared with the tropic specimens collected in Melanesia and Indo- Australia. C. naresii has 41 or 42 vertebrae, same in number as C. comatus (MITCHILL) of the western Atlantic, and agrees in many respects with the latter through the stages of young and adult. Among the western Pacific species it allies with the forms of C. opisthopus (BLEEKER) in the posterior insertion of ventral fin, and; furthermore, it resembles closely to C. opisthopus hiraii TOMIYAMA et ABE, the Japanese form, in the juvenile characters. Difference in some characteristics of these three species are tabulated (Table 3). C. naresii differs from C. comatus in the following respects, namely: having smaller head, longer pectoral and ventral, more posterior insertion of dorsal, and fewer gill rakers. C. naresii is edentulous on palatine in both of Japanese and Indo-Pacific specimens, on the contrary, in C. comatus, the palatine is denticulate in some specimens and edentulous in others after Bruun. In the juveniles, C. naresii agrees with C. comatus in having a single tape - like cutaneous barbel with the similar structure, and low dorsal fin through the growth stages. C. comatus, by the records after Breder and Bruun, does not seem to grow so large as C. naresii. C. opisthopus hiraii has 4 or 5 more vertebrae compared with C. naresii. In adult, having more slender body and narrower caudal peduncle, it is clearly distinguished from the latter. In the juvenile stages, the barbel of C. opisthopus hiraii is petal-shaped and always short, but in general shape and colouration of body the former well resembles to the latter. The spawning period of C. naresii seems to be June to July on the coast of Kyushu. Its juveniles frequently appear in the current rip in summer to early autumn. | |||||
