| 内容記述 | Haruki Murakami is a well-known Japanese writer who has consistently used the first person, boku, in his most novels and stories. Lexington Ghosts taken up in this paper is also a work which is narrated primarily in the boku first person. This thesis compares the two versions of Lexington Ghosts, namely the short version (group version) and the long version (paperback version). This paper attempts to identify this novel in Murakami's work history from the point of view of the first person, boku, who appears in the novel and the person function perspective,. The emphasis of this novel is focused on the father-son relationship in the paperback version. Unlike Tony Takitani, which was published at the same time, Lexington Ghosts is a novel which is narrated neither from a simple first person viewpoint nor the third person viewpoint. The narrator, boku, cleverly switches the position between the first person viewpoint and the third person point of view according to the scenes, which depicts a more complicated father-son relationship. In addition, the uses of the first person “I” in Lexington Ghosts is different from the uses of boku that have appeared in Murakami’s other works. Through such person expression, this work mixes the first person, boku, and Casey’s view point together which affects the existence of the first person “I”. As a writer, Haruki Murakami makes this novel present a self-explanatory structure by using both the father’s and son’s perspectives. Furthermore, after Lexington Ghosts, Murakami has further embodied the author's continuous trial and error in person expression in other works, such as All the children of God dance, Sputnik's lover, and so on. In short, Lexington Ghosts has shed light on the changes in person function which can be said to be a work of significance in Murakami's work history. |

| 内容記述 | 村上春樹は一人称「僕」を一貫して使う作家であるとされる。本稿で取り上げる「レキシントンの幽霊」も主に一人称「僕」により語られている作品である。本稿は，「レキシントンの幽霊」のショート・バージョン（群像版）とロング・バージョン（単行本版）を比較しながら，作品中に登場した一人称「僕」のあり方や人称機能の点から，この作品の村上作品史における新たな位置づけを試みるものである。 単行本版では，加筆によって，物語の力点が父子関係へと変化したことが読み取れる。ほぼ同時期に発表された「トニー滝谷」とは異なり，「レキシントンの幽霊」は，単純な一人称視点や三人称視点とは異なり，語り手「僕」が場面に応じて，位置取りを変え，一人称視点と三人称視点が巧妙に切替ってゆくことによって，より複雑な父子関係を描く物語となっている。 また，「レキシントンの幽霊」に登場している「僕」という人称表現は，これまでの村上春樹作品に出てきた「僕」と異なる人称表現のあり方を示している。こうした人称表現によって，この作品は，ケイシーと「僕」との視点の交錯を通じて，語られざる「僕」自身の在り様が浮かび上がる物語であり，息子の立場にあるケイシーとその父親の双方を同時に見渡していく「小説家」である「僕」の自己言及の物語という構造であることを論じた。 そして，「レキシントンの幽霊」以降，「神の子どもたちはみな踊る」，「スプートニクの恋人」などの作品では，人称表現に関して試行錯誤をする作者の姿がより顕著に現れている。つまり，「レキシントンの幽霊」は， 村上作品史において，人称機能が変化する兆しが初めて明確にあらわれた作品と位置付けられ，その意味で，重要な意義を持つ作品と言えよう。 |
