ニュージーランドでは1990年に改正看護師法が制定され，助産師の役割が明確化し，助産師教育は，ダイレクトエントリー制度となった。LMC（Lead Maternity Carer）制度が始まり，助産師は独立した活動が行うことができるようになった。LMCは妊娠期から産後６週間まで妊産褥婦の継続したケアを行うことができる。ほとんどの女性はLMCに助産師を選択していた。LMCは女性の選択を支える重要な存在である。ニュージーランドの助産師は女性とのパートナーシップを基本的考え方として持っており，自律した活動を行っていた。助産師は女性の自己決定を支援できるようにするために，常に専門性を高める努力をしていた。現地の助産師との交流を通して，ニュージーランドの助産師が誇りをもって働く姿の裏付けには，自己研鑽を惜しむことなく積む自律した精神があることが分かった。 |

The Nurses Amendment Act was enacted in New Zealand in 1990, clarifying the role of midwives and enabling direct-entry midwifery education. The introduction of the Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) system allowed midwives to carry out their activities independently. The LMC is able to provide continuous maternal care from early pregnancy period until six weeks after birth. Almost all women chose a midwife as the LMC, and the LMC is an important presence supporting women’s choices. Midwives in New Zealand had a fundamental approach of forming a partnership with women, and they carried out their activities independently. Midwives constantly strived to enhance their expertise in order to support women’s self-determination. Through interaction with local midwives, it became clear that the way in which midwives in New Zealand take great confidence in the work they carry out is underpinned by a spirit of self-reliance that spares no effort in the quest for self-improvement. |
