A simple educational tool has been developed using daily commodities for high school students to have an interested in calorimetry and measure the specific heat of metals. In this study, we used "insulation coffee-cup ", which is the cheap commodity and has excellent insulation property, instated of a "water calorimeter" which is appeared on high school textbooks of physics. The students measured the specific heats of three unknown metals and identified them as aluminum, iron, and copper using our educational tools for about 150 minutes. After finishing the experiments, the students made presentation and discussion on the results. |
