| 内容記述 | The Kuchino-erabujima Island has an active volcano, which has caused devastation to the island throughout its history, and it also has a sulphur mine. The island has been suffering from rapid depopulation- an added problem to its small population. How has this society changed? Unfortunately there is little record of formal island history; its main record is not held on even in a bigger neighbouring island. Therefore, we investigated the social mobility through pre-existing external data and maps with on-site verif ications. We demonstrate a case of an idealistic preservation and display of resources in this paper: the “Resource Centre” located along the corridor of the local elementary/junior high school. It displays and preserves archaeological resources, tools, animal stuff ing, and local literatures. This has shifted the handicaps away from small island researchers of having limited resources. The case of Kuchino-erabujima Island provides an important example for small islands without resource centres: this empowers present and future generations to engage in their life-long education of their own homeland as well as for island researchers. |
